Ric Ocasek, the main guy behind the band The Cars, has 6 sons (and no daughters, which just seems statistically interesting), two each from his three wives. His third wife was a 19 year old model he met on the video shoot for the song "Drive" when he was 35 (and still married to his second wife).

His last name was originally spelled Otcasek but he dropped the "T" after having two kids with his first wife, meaning they still have the "T" last name Otcasek and the other sons have the T-less Ocasek surname. So the song is about how awkward, I imagine, his relationship is with his first sons. I have no idea if its true, maybe they all get along great and I'm just dealing with some daddy issues.

I also may have hidden a few Cars song titles in the lyrics.

I was the first, the only one
I was Ric Ocasek's son
It got worse, one by one
For all Ric Ocasek's sons

I used to think we were happy
Like any other family
But my earliest memory
Is just of my mommy and me

I was the first, now I'm just one
Just one of Ric Ocasek's sons
Just what I needed, another one
of Ric Ocasek's sons

It was good to be alive
At least until that fateful drive
When it came apart at the seams
What's 35 minus 19?

You might think his presence, never mind the inheritance, would be divided equally.
But that's just not how it would be.

Let's go, I think I'm done
Being Ric Ocasek's son
He thinks that he can drop the "T"
And just as easily drop me
