I swear this was written years before the Bruce Springsteen or Miley Cyrus songs, it just takes us forever to get around to recording. It's about people who, as Alfred says, "just want to watch the world burn," often with little or no real effort or awareness of their impact. Gentrifying land developers who raze hundred year old buildings, do-nothing congresses who undo years of compromise and leadership, certain cops who undermine a tradition of trust and protection, certain public school teachers who do more harm than good,...uh...let me put it more better:

Its a song about how shitty people ruin stuff.

You pull it back, you let it go
Your wrist is flicked and a switch is thrown
If something stood for centuries, why not bring it to its knees?

All of this may as well be two tons of metal: a wrecking ball

You let me go and you left me swinging
If I had known, I would have come out swinging
If I were you, and believed half of what you say you do
I guess I'd start too
I guess I'd start swinging

All of this may as well be two tons of metal: a wrecking ball
